195 Food Recipes from Every Country in the World - Psychology of Travel (1)

Food & Travel

Food represents an integral part of travel. The culinary experiences from around the globe, and dazzling recipes from every country, magnify our travel experience. As an added bonus, dining experiences during travel show us ingrained local culture that we could otherwise never learn.

Would you agree that food can magnify our sensory mindfulness? Have culinary smells ever inspired your taste-buds, or has exotic and delicately textured food been a source of shared fond memories with family and friends?

Food can often be the most enjoyable and memorable part of your journey. Stories of amazing recipes from other lands often resonate with our family and friends and help us build social connections with strangers.

So, I thought it would compliment the psychological aspects of travel (this is Psychology Of Travel after all) to include a comprehensive sample of favorite local dishes from every country of the world. I’ve selected 195 video recipes for foods from around the globe to highlight some of the amazing dishes out there. I chose to include recipes in video format to help more clearly demonstrate the process of cooking and for visual appeal given the intricacies of describing unfamiliar foods.

The Mega List of Recipes from Around the World

This is by no means a political post on what constitutes a country versus unrecognized status. Neither does this represent any ordering of countries such as ranking of best food. For simplicity, I went with the 193 countries that are currently fully recognized by the members of the United Nations, plus two countries with status as permanent observers in the United Nations.

If you’re interested, see more about what constitutes a “country” and the apparently hard-to-define precise number of Countries of the World.

Also, it’s pretty much impossible to have one dish represent an entire country. There are so many incredible recipes from each country, including both traditional and progressive dishes, that obviously not all could make this list. In some cases, I have selected the “national dish” of the country. In other cases, I selected the recipe that represented various cultural elements. For, some…well, I just thought it looked delicious!

The foods from every country of the world listed here are examples of local dishes to help inspire you to cook or explore on your travels. Consider this list an appetizer to whet your appetite for more flavors of each part of the world.
