Remember when everyone thought Microsoft broke the internet? Maybe this was you last Friday: you reboot your computer, and... nothing but blue. You reboot, and it's blue. Nobody wants to be blue... 📋 Below is a quick and dirty checklist to keep your systems happy and your business from grinding to a screeching halt.We now know it wasn't Microsoft (but we couldn't resist the meme). A CrowdStrike update caused chaos, affecting 8.5 million devices. Last week, IT teams worked around the clock. That's hundreds of thousands of people-hours wasted. Whether human error or a cyberattack, the impact on your business can be devastating. So, how can you be ready for the next digital calamity? 👨💻 Here's what you need to survive an IT outage: ✅ Insurance Check: What could an outage cost your business? Chat with your provider or broker to make sure your policy covers these "oops" moments like human error and programming issues, not just cyberattacks. ✅ Business Continuity Plan: Can you function without computers? (Believe it or not, yes!) Have a plan for when technology takes an unexpected vacation. If you need a plan, find a company (like, ahem, InsITe) to facilitate discussions with internal business units to document processes, centralize the information, and keep it current.✅ Disaster Recovery Plan: Back it up! Don't put all your eggs in one third-party basket. When things go south, you can have a solid plan to restore your IT systems and data. Again, if you need a facilitator for these conversations, we know a guy. ✅ Vendor Due Diligence: Scrutinize your service providers. Do they have robust backup and recovery plans? Don't just take their word for it.💡 An InsITe insight: 99% uptime still means 3.65 days of downtime per year. That's a lot of lost work. Don't get caught with your servers down. #CyberPreparedness #ITResilience #BusinessContinuity #DisasterRecovery #InsITeSolutions

Lessons Learned from the Recent Microsoft Global OutageThe recent Microsoft global outage, while brief, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of mitigating single points of failure (SPOFs) in our increasingly interconnected world. The Culprit: A faulty update from a third-party security software caused a domino effect, disrupting Microsoft Azure and numerous downstream services like Microsoft 365. This highlights the potential vulnerability of relying on a single vendor for critical system components. The Impact: Businesses of all sizes, from airlines and banks to hospitals and government agencies, felt the ripple effects of the outage. This underscores the need for robust redundancy plans to ensure operational continuity during disruptions. The Takeaway: * Proactive identification and mitigation of SPOFs is essential for building resilient IT infrastructure. * Diversification of vendors and services can help minimize the impact of single-source failures. * Regular testing and incident response planning are crucial for ensuring rapid recovery in the event of an outage.Let's discuss how we can design and implement IT systems that are more resistant to disruptions!#microsoft #globaloutage #SPOF #ITinfrastructure #resiliency

From airports to hospitals and financial institutions, the IT world is once again standing still in chaos. This time, the disruption isn't necessarily caused by hackers or malicious actors, but seemingly due to faulty patches to mission-critical production systems. In a world where we are fully dependent on increasingly complex and fragmented technologies, I can't help but think about the thousands of IT professionals who have been laid off globally in the past year. Companies continue to strive to achieve more with fewer resources, but is it truly more?Just thinking about today's incident, could the lack of staffing resources or the overload on existing staff be the reason a patch wasn't properly tested before being pushed into production? I can't say for sure, but I'm certain that the ongoing process of tightening the belt around IT departments globally poses a significant threat to the stability of these companies, their infrastructure and their products, and eventually to their consumers and end-users.If you're a company on the lookout for an IT Manager with a passion for new technologies, attention to details, and a people-first approach to leadership, I'm ready to jump in and help.#IT #Infrastructure #Management #ITServices #ITOutage #Microsoft #CroudStrike

Lessons from the Microsoft OutageThe recent global outage caused by a faulty CrowdStrike update on Microsoft Windows sent shockwaves through businesses worldwide. While the issue itself was resolved within a day, it serves as a stark reminder of our dependence on technology and the importance of building resilience. Here are some key takeaways I gleaned from this event:1.The Fragility of Interdependence: A glitch in one system can have cascading effects across entire industries. This highlights the need for diversified tech stacks and robust contingency plans. 2. Security Concerns: The outage, though unintentional, underscores the ever-present risk of vulnerabilities in our software. It reinforces the need for constant vigilance and proactive security measures.3.The Power of Communication: During outages, clear and timely communication is crucial. Businesses should have established protocols for keeping stakeholders informed and managing expectations. What are your thoughts on the recent Microsoft outage? How can we better prepare for future disruptions? Share your insights in the comments! #MicrosoftOutage #TechResilience #DigitalTransformationI'd also be interested to hear from anyone in the comments whose industry was particularly impacted by the outage. Let's foster a discussion around the lessons learned and how we can all build a more robust and adaptable digital landscape.
