If you follow my blog, you’ve probably noticed I’ve had a blast making all sorts of fun recipes using egg rolls and wonton wrappers like this Mozzarella Meatball Egg Rolls recipe. You can put so many different things inside an egg roll wrapper! The possibilities are endless, they taste great and they are so easy to make. It’s something both the kids and adults can agree on and it’s not difficult to make, which is a score.

To make the meatball egg rolls I used the new RAGÚ® Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce, which is amazing! I not only used it to cook my meatballs but warmed a little up for dipping!

Mozzarella Meatball Egg Rolls Recipe

To make this Mozzarella & Meatball Egg Roll Wrap recipe you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce 23 oz
  • 1 Package Egg Roll Wrappers
  • 24 Meatballs
  • 1/2 – 1 cup Mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup Black Olives
  • 1 cup Water
  • 6 or more String Cheese

Follow these directions to make these yummy meatball egg rolls:

  • Place about 24 meatballs into a crock pot. For this recipe, I just purchased frozen meatballs, but you can make your own. However, if you buy the frozen meatballs, it’s totally okay to toss them into the crockpot still frozen.
  • Add one jar of RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce, mushrooms, black olives and 1 cup of water. Allow to cook on high for about 30 minutes or until water is boiled out.

  • Fold one corner toward the center of the egg roll wrapper. Using your finger wet the other corner with a little bit of water and move it toward the center. It should come over the other side of the egg roll wrapper, and the water will help seal it.
  • Roll the bottom side of the egg roll wrapper up as tight as you can, wet the top of the wrapper and continue to roll the wrapper up. Check and make sure the wrapper is sealed everywhere. If it does not, just use a little water and make sure it’s sealed.
  • Place meatball egg rolls into hot grease and cook on each side for 20 to 30 seconds or until golden brown. Be sure not to leave them in long, they cook super quick.
  • Set mozzarellameatball wraps on the plate with paper towels on top to soak up additional grease.

Serve with RAGÚ Homestyle Meat Pasta Sauce or choose one of the other flavors of RAGÚ Homestyle Saucefor dipping.

You can grabRAGÚ Homestyle Pasta Sauce in four awesome flavors:

  • RAGÚ Homestyle Traditional Pasta Sauce 23 oz.

Did you know that RAGÚ Homestyle Thick & Hearty Traditional Sauce uses peeled, chopped, and simmered ingredients to create a delicious robust texture?

RAGÚ really knocked it out of the park with their Homestyle Thick & Hearty Traditional Sauce! You can definitely tell they do something different. Okay, so a lot of things different, like using farm grown ingredients, fragrant herbs such as basil, garlic, ground black pepper, and fennel, and of course using vine ripened tomatoes. FAQs

How to make tight egg rolls? ›

But the tricks I've found to help mine come out better are:
  1. pre-cook the veges just enough to make them softer so that they squish more closely together and you can make tighter rolls.
  2. Get the mixture as dry as possible before putting it in the wraps.
  3. And when wrapping, make the roll TIGHT.

How do you bind meatballs without eggs? ›

What can I use instead of eggs to bind meatballs? There are several options to substitute eggs in a meatball recipe: 2 tablespoons of buttermilk per egg, 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt per egg, 1/4 cup ricotta cheese per egg, or 3 tablespoons unsweetened apple sauce per egg.

How to make and freeze egg rolls? ›

To freeze:

Deep fry in 375 degree oil until lightly browned, cool completely. Place in Zip-lock freezer bag; seal tightly and freeze. Thawed rolls can be reheated at 300 degrees - I'm sorry but there's not a time given! I think I usually warm them from 15 - 20 minutes, but I can't promise that's the perfect timing).

Why won t my egg rolls stay crispy? ›

If your oil is too hot, then the egg rolls wrappers will brown quickly, but won't be as crispy because there wasn't enough time for the water to evaporate. If the oil is too cold, the egg rolls will never reach peak crispiness. You can still fry without a thermometer, but it may be more trial and error.

What holds egg rolls together? ›

We use an egg wash (1 beaten egg and 1 tablespoon water) to seal our egg rolls. However, our vegetarian egg roll can become a vegan egg roll if you use a cornstarch slurry as a sealer (in addition to eggless wrappers).

What is egg roll filling made of? ›

What's In An Egg Roll? This egg roll recipe calls for a ginger- and garlic-packed filling of pork, cabbage, and carrots. The filling is stuffed in a store-bought egg roll wrapper, which is sealed with a flour paste and fried to crispy perfection in hot peanut oil.

Why do you put peanut butter in egg rolls? ›

Peanut butter is sometimes used to seal eggrolls to hold them together before frying.

Can I skip the egg in meatballs? ›

If you know about meatballs you know that just about every homemade meatball recipe calls for eggs as a binding agent. After making a lot of meatball recipes, I think that the best egg substitute for meatballs is ricotta cheese. By using a good quality ricotta cheese you can have the perfect eggless meatballs.

How do you get homemade meatballs to stick together? ›

Egg: A lot of meatball recipes add egg to the mince mixture because it helps to bind the balls together. Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs also help to bind your meatballs. If the mince mixture is quite wet, breadcrumbs will help soak up excess moisture so that the balls don't fall apart.

What can be used instead of eggs as a binder? ›

For recipes that use eggs as a binder or for moisture, substitutes like applesauce or oil can do the trick. If the eggs act as a leavening agent, like when making muffins, try a combination of vinegar and baking powder.

Is it better to freeze egg rolls cooked or uncooked? ›

Freezing both uncooked and cooked egg rolls is pretty easy but in the case of the latter, once cooked, you'll need to give them at least 1 to 2 hours to cool down before freezing. Generally, you can just take frozen egg rolls out of the freezer and drop them into a deep fryer straight away.

Do you fry homemade egg rolls before freezing? ›

But if you need to roll them more than a day in advance, I recommend freezing them. Freezing: You can make and assemble the egg rolls without frying them and freeze them right away. Just place each egg roll in a single layer in a large gallon-size ziploc freezer safe bag as they are made.

What is the best oil for egg rolls? ›

Peanut oil is great for frying egg rolls as it has a high smoking point and provides a nutty flavor. If you don't have it on hand, you can use canola or corn oil. Do not use oils like sesame oil or olive oil, as they are not good candidates for deep-frying due to their low smoking point.

What do you use to seal egg rolls? ›

In a normal egg roll, the filling is cooked and then placed in a wrapper, which is folded and sealed with egg before frying.
